Express grad MacKay inks AHL deal

Former Walpole Express forward Max MacKay has agreed to terms on a one-year, American Hockey League contract with the  Bridgeport Sound Tigers for the 2012-13 season.

MacKay, 21, earns his first professional contract after leading the Express to its third consecutive President’s Cup Trophy during the 2011-12 season. The Cranston, R.I., native led Walpole in all offensive categories last year, recording 62 points (25 goals) in 29 games along with a team-high 91 penalty minutes. MacKay was also invited to this year's New York Islanders prospect camp.

The 6-foot-1, 194-pound MacKay posted 83 points (33 goals) in 43 games and was third overall in AJHL scoring during the 2010-11 campaign with the Express.

Prior to his time in the AJHL, MacKay played three seasons with the Bridgewater Bandits between the Eastern Junior Hockey League and Empire Junior Hockey League, totaling 107 points (47 goals) in 106 games.
