Bucs 4, Pilots 0
The battle for Anchorage baseball supremacy has begun, and Brandon Henry's shutout on Tuesday gave the Anchorage Bucs the edge against the Anchorage Glacier Pilots in the annual three-game showdown known as the Mayor's Cup.
The Bucs, who are trying to prevent the Pilots from winning their eighth straight Mayor's Cup, bettered the Pilots 4-0 in Game 1 at Mulcahy Stadium, where the two teams will meet again Wednesday and Thursday.
The Bucs own a 6-5 edge on the season series with the Pilots.
Henry struck out six and walked three in nine innings, with run support coming primarily in the form of Andy Crowley, who drove in two runs and scored.
Crowley drove in the Bucs' first run on a second-inning double and later scored from third on an error to forge a 2-0 lead. The Bucs scored another in the third inning and led 3-0 in the seventh when Crowley drove in his second run with a single.
Pilots starter Carlos Fuentes struck out seven in six innings, but allowed three runs in the loss.
