The Alaska Baseball League was well represented on Perfect Game’s 2013 Summer Collegiate Baseball All-Americans rankings, with Bucs pitcher Garrett Mundell joining Miners‘ offensive standouts AJ Simcox and Christin Stewart on the list for 2013.

Tennessee slugger Christin Stewart led the way with first-team honors among outfielders; PG recognized him as an “offensive-oriented player” who had “led Alaska in homers (5), RBIs (31), and was second in batting (.336).”

His college and Miners teammate A.J. Simcox was recognized as the second-team representative at shortstop and “has all the tools to be a 2015 first-rounder, just needs power to develop, become consistent in the field.”

ABL Pitcher of the Year and Anchorage Bucs’ righty Garrett Mundell (Fresno State) was part of the third-team starting rotation in PG’s roster, noted for a “big, projectable frame, command of four pitches…[going] 6-2, 2.26 with 16BB/59SO in 52 IP.”

2013 Goldpanners shortstop David Fletcher was also honored in the rankings, named the best “Rising Freshman” in summer ball. Fletcher put up an All-Star season in Alaska despite having just completed high school; he is committed to Loyola Marymount for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Some familiar names from years past also made the list. Among the starting pitchers, 2012 Glacier PilotKyle Freeland — out of Evansville and playing for Hyannis in the Cape Cod Baseball League this year — earned first-team honors and “positioned himself as a possible first-rounder…[he] dominated with a 90-93 FB, plus SL”. His former Pilots teammate Drew Van Orden of Duke was recognized with Second-Team honors as the ace of the Santa Barbara Foresters this year “with better command of 91-94 mph FB”.
