Brian Hanes - Honoured Athletic Leader

BRIAN HANES- Baseball

Brian has coached youth baseball at every level for over twenty years, including college. Starting in 1988 until
1995 he was active with the Calgary East Little League program and All Star Teams. He moved on to coach with
the Babe Ruth Baseball Giants and Dodgers Organizations. During this period he was also responsible for the
16-18 age group all Star Travel Teams. He has coached a number of league champions and regional finalists and
has taken teams to the Senior Babe Ruth World Series in Ohio in both 2006 and 2008.He is a former associate
scout with Major League Baseball's Texas Ranger organization.

Through numerous training camps, club teams, travel teams and individual training sessions, Brian has coached thousands of young players. Current and former players consistently express their appreciation for his team management skills and for his ability to instill values of teamwork, self-discipline, respect and love of baseball. Brian is recognized as one of the most knowledgeable people in developing young players. Parents and coaches often seek his advice, which he readily and patiently shares.

Brian's efforts on behalf of Babe Ruth Calgary have been tireless. He has been a long serving member on the board of Babe Ruth Calgary and has been president of the Coaches Association since it was founded in 2003. He has been instrumental in evaluating and instituting rule changes, scheduling, planning preseason evaluations and practice schedules and liaising between the Board of Directors and the Umpires Association.

Founder and president of a company called "Total Baseball" which assists Babe Ruth baseball players in the search and selection of suitable college programs. He has assisted more than 40 players in playing college baseball and pursuing their education.

In 2012, Brian was named Babe Ruth Calgary, AAA Manager of the Year.

For his efforts in developing young players and for his long service to Babe Ruth Calgary, Brian is most deserving of recognition as a Calgary Booster Club Honoured Athletic Leader.
