Danforth, Armour Invited to Team Canada East Evaluation Camp

MISSISSAUGA, ON – The Ontario Junior Hockey League, in conjunction with the Central Canada Hockey League, today announced the 83 players that have been invited to attend the Team Canada East Summer Evaluation Camp in preparation for the 2012 World Junior ‘A’ Challenge being held from November 5-11, 2012 in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.

The summer evaluation camp is scheduled to take place on August 11 and 12, 2012 and will be hosted by the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots at the MasterCard Centre for Excellence in Etobicoke, Ontario.  The players will be divided into four teams that will play practice and play a series of intersquad games.

The camp roster was selected by Canada East head coach Greg Walters (Georgetown Raiders), along with assistant coaches Jason Nobili (Markham Waxers) and Sheldon Keefe (Pembroke Lumber Kings, CCHL). Assisting the coaching staff throughout the duration of the camp, are the following OJHL staff members:

Team Coach – Kevin Gomes (Oakville Blades)

Team Coach – Paul Matucci (Lindsay Muskies)

Team Coach – Justin Peca (Newmarket Hurricanes)

Team Coach – Jeff Perrin (Stouffville Spirit)

Trainer – Michael Carneiro (St. Michael’s Buzzers)

Trainer – Andrew Groombridge (Georgetown Raiders)

Trainer – Drew Laskoski (Stouffville Spirit)

Trainer – Dr. Christina Voldner (Toronto Jr. Canadiens)

“We are very excited to begin the process of selecting Team Canada East,” said Walters.  “This camp will give our coaching staff a great opportunity to evaluate the top eligible players from the OJHL and the CCHL.  I would like to emphasize, however that just because a player was not selected for this camp, it does not mean he will not be invited to our main camp in late October.”

The Canada East final roster will be comprised of players from the CCHL, OJHL, Maritime Hockey League (MHL), Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) and the Quebec Junior ‘AAA’ Hockey League (QJAAAHL).

Canada East Summer Evaluation Camp roster includes:

- 51 forwards, 24 defencemen, 8 goaltenders

- 61 players from the OJHL, 22 players from the CCHL

- Six players returning from Canada East’s silver medal performance at the 2011 World Junior ‘A’ Challenge (Danforth, Dutra, Ignagni, Leavens, Pucciarelli, Wright)

- Georgetown Raiders and Pembroke Lumber Kings lead the way, each with six players invited to camp,

followed closely by the Aurora Tigers and Toronto Lakeshore Patriots with five players each.

The Team Canada East Summer Evaluation Camp will be free of charge to attend and the general public is invited to watch all practices and intersquad games.  All games will be played as two 25 minute halves, with a seven minute warm-up and a five player shootout.
