The Danbury Westerners are once again reaching out to Western Connecticut and the Hudson Valley to invite your school or public library to join in on the fun and participate in the Westerners ERA – Summer Reading Program.
What is the ERA Program?
ERA (Eager Readers Achieve) program promotes literacy by increasing the incentive for children ages 5 and older to read. Through ERA, the Westerners reward readers with a ticket to nearby Rogers Park in Danbury for an evening of fun of Westerners baseball. This is a great complement to any summer reading program!
The Westerners offer this program at no cost to your institution. Each participating school or public library will be given tickets for your summer reading program, allowing you to reward the readers based on your own criteria. Each ticket admits the reader to any Westerners game of their choice. Plus, if you so choose, a lucky participant in the ERA program from your library will have the opportunity to throw out a ceremonial first pitch!
In addition, depending on availability, “Westy” the Westerners mascot, and members of the Danbury Westerners baseball team can visit your institution to help kick-off your program. What a perfect way to help participants achieve! You'll be sure to hit a home run with the Westerners ERA program - an excellent way to reward your summer reading participants!
The Danbury Westerners are an all-volunteer 501c3 non-profit organization that adds value to family activities in Western Connecticut by providing professional-quality NCAA and Major League supported amateur baseball entertainment to kids of all ages. The Danbury Westerners play premier summer wooden bat league baseball as part of the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL). We play 44 games in less than 60 days from early June through early August. Our players come from all over the US from the top colleges and universities to play in this league. Our players are vying for a chance to become Major League Baseball players after they finish their education. To date 21 former Westerners have reached the Major Leagues, and dozens are currently playing professionally.
