Junior Legion

The Excelsior Junior Legion program is a team comprised of players that are seventeen years old or less (17U) - generally raduated sophomores and 'age eligible' graduated juniors. The team roster may include up to a maximum of eighteen players. The Junior Team is called the Mudhens or Maynards Mudhens. The Junior Legion team provides an extensive 40 to 45 regular season game and tournament schedule over a two month season. The Minnesota State Tournament champion advances to the Central Plains Regional this year hosted by Rapid City SD. State Tournament. Junior Legion is designed as a developmental level for players that are motivated to pursue their baseball.

Mudhens 2016 Tourneys

May 26 - 28 The Lake Elmo / Stillwater kick off held at Stillwater High School - Stillwater annually hosts an eight team tourney with three pool games and a final ranking game on Sunday. Memorial Weekend weather can be unpredictable.

June 2 - 4 Apple Valley Invitational has always fielded a strong group of teams. These first two tournaments usually give the Mudhen a good view of how we stack up against the competition.

June 15 - 18 The Melde Meltdown at Veterans Field - Fifteen teams first compete in the pool play segment that is followed on the final Sunday with the ranked playoff round that determines the champion and all the ranked spots. Parents and volunteers make sure that our home tourney runs smoothly for all the visiting teams.

June 28 - July 5th Rhode Island Firecracker Tournament - This showcase-based tournament will be held over the 4th of July weekend with lots of exciting action with up to 36 teams being represented. July 7 - 9 Prior Lake Tournament - Prior Lake, MN

July 14 - 16 Fargo Tournament - Fargo, ND

July 24 - 30 Junior Legion State Tournament - Apple Valley Quarry Fields - Apple Valley will again host the sixteen team double elimination playoff tourney. Teams are seeded with the highest ranked team rewarded with home team status. The Minnesota state champion advances to the National Regional.

August 2 - 6 Junior Legion National Regional - Fargo, ND

Technology Corner

Our squads utilize several digital tools and apps to provide full communications and activity access to families and players. Our little Technology Corner will post information to access these tools and apps as well as instructions on how to use them.

TEAM SNAP - This is the tool we use to maintain roster and contact information, activity and game schedules, and links to maps of various sites. This is an "opt in" app that is based on the acceptance of membership invitation by the individual (player, coach, parent). Get your Team Snap App available for Android and iPhone. It is free. You will be able to see roster information, schedules and site directions. The Team Snap app will be the most up to date tool.

GAME CHANGER - This tool is used to score our games at home and away. We track statistics on this application. Fans can follow any game live with the Game Changer app on any mobile device. There is a 'fan fee' charged by the vendor. Our teams are listed as : Excelsior Senior Legion Team and Excelsior Junior Legion Team of the Team Finder.

FACEBOOK PAGES - We maintain Facebook pages for the Junior team - Maynard's Mudhens; the senior team: Excelsior Legion Baseball; The Gopher Classic Tournament; and the Melde Meltdown. This is an opportunity for sharing pictures and videos of the year as it unfolds.
