PLAYOFF MVP RETURNS FOR 2010-11

HUNTSVILLE, AL - Huntsville Havoc head coach Randy Murphy announced today that SPHL Playoff MVP, goaltender Dan McWhinney, will return in net for the Huntsville Havoc this season.

"Dan proved he was a top goaltender in our league last year," Murphy said. "This will be an important year for Dan to challenge himself to be even better, as we fully expect him to be. His playoff performance was superior and our expectations are to have him pick up where he left off in terms of his work ethic, focus and competitiveness. He is a great dressing room guy and a true leader on our team."

McWhinney saw action in 32 games last season and went 16-9-5 with a 3.04 goals against average and an 89.8 save percentage. He excelled in the playoffs, leading the Havoc to the SPHL Championship, going 7-1 with a 1.96 goals against and a 92.9 save percentage.

"I was really disappointed in my play during the regular season, but it was nice to be able to pick it up in the post-season," McWhinney said. "It was great to be a part of a championship team and it will be fun to reunite with the guys that will be returning and defending our title."

The Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario native has played in 109 career games and posted a 45-44-12 record. He has 3.47 career goals against average and an 89.1 career save percentage.

The Havoc also signed former Neuman College defenseman, Dave Gooch, to a tryout agreement. The Mantua, New Jersey native played in 85 career games for the Knights, scoring one goal and recording 11 assists.
