HUNTSVILLE, AL – Huntsville Havoc head coach Randy Murphy announced today that assistant captain, Ray Ortiz, will return for his third season in a Havoc uniform.
“Ray will be relied on once again to provide us game in and game out consistency,” Murphy said. “His ability to kill penalties is better than anyone I have seen in our league. He played a key roll down the stretch and into the playoffs in terms of showing selflessness and sacrifice and showing what it takes to win. I am very excited to have Ray be a part of our organization once again and his popularity with the fans and in the community will again be welcomed.”
Ortiz played in all 56 regular season games for the Havoc last season and scored seven goals and recorded 17 assists. He scored two goals and added one assist in eight playoff games. He has played in 104 games for the Havoc the past two seasons, scoring 28 goals and recording 47 assists. For his professional career, he has played in 180 games, scored 37 goals and recorded 61 assists.
“I’m excited to be coming back to Huntsville for a third season and more excited to be coming back as the defending champions,” Ortiz said. “I’m looking forward to getting back to work because that is what it is going to take to even have a chance to do what we did last season. It will be good to come back to such a great organization, coaching staff and one of the best fan bases around.”
The Havoc also signed former Wisconsin-Superior forward, Chris Wilson, and former Bowdoin forward, Leland Fidler, to tryout agreements.
Wilson (5-9, 170) played in 54 games in two seasons at Wisconsin-Superior after transferring from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. He scored 29 goals and recorded 37 assists for the Yellow Jackets.
