NEWSDate: Aug 11, 2010 McCREARY NAMED PLAYER ASSISTANT COACHHUNTSVILLE, AL – Huntsville Havoc head coach Randy Murphy announced today that defenseman Billy McCreary will return to VBC ice next season, not only as a player, but also as an assistant coach. “Billy is the anchor of our defense,” Murphy said. “He provides us with leadership, experience, and a fierce competitive drive that is always visible. Aside of his obvious skill set, the best part of Billy McCreary is he loves to learn and he shows a desire and willingness to want to get better every day, whether it is in practice or watching video. That is type of player we want here in Huntsville”. McCreary (5-10, 175) has played in 167 career games with 162 of them coming in a Havoc uniform. He has scored 19 goals, recorded 80 assists and has 416 penalty minutes. He has played in 21 career playoff games, scoring two goals and adding 13 assists. He served as the Assistant Captain for the Havoc last season. “Coming back to Huntsville was a no brainer for me”, McCreary said. “I love this city. I have spent my three years since turning pro trying to win a championship for this organization and this town. Now that we have achieved that goal it is in my nature and my heart to work to stay on top and defend our title. When Coach Murphy offered me the player assistant coaching job it just seemed like the perfect fit for me right now. Randy is a very knowledgeable coach and I plan to learn everything I can, on and off the ice, to help this organization stay on top.” Don’t miss the Havoc defend their 2009-10 SPHL President’ Cup Championship by becoming a season ticket holder.
