CCHL Team Profile of the Week: Kanata Lasers
Nic is in his 2nd year with the Lasers and was selected team captain this past January 10th. One of the CCHL’s elite power forwards he continues to produce on the offensive end accumulating 50 (27G, 23A) points in 49 games which leads all Lasers and puts him in the top 20 in league scoring. The Detroit, Michigan native has one more year of Junior eligibility and hopes to have his best year while leading the Lasers into the playoffs. Nic’s goal is to obtain a US scholarship and has definitely proved he can play at a higher level.
Jimmy Howard played for the Lasers in 2000-2001 before moving on to the US National Junior Team. Howard accepted a scholarship to attend the University of Maine where he still holds the NCAA records for goals against at 1.19 and save percentage of .954. He was drafted 64th overall in the 2003 Entry Draft by the Detroit Red Wings and was a Calder Trophy finalist in 2010. As the Wings starting goalie, Howard has been posting some solid career numbers boasting a 2.29 goals against and a .920 save percentage. He is currently in Sochi, Russia as a member of the US Olympic team.
