Mississippi Surge Owner
Tim Kerr | Owner/Govenor Tim Kerr enters his second full season at the helm of the Mississippi Surge taking. Kerr, who also owns the Pensacola Ice Flyers, serves as the Chairman of the Board of Governor's for the SPHL after being re-elected for the second consecutive year. In his first stint as an owner in Pensacola, Tim successfully guided the Ice Pilots to a 91-39-14 record in two ECHL seasons, 2003-04 and 2004-05. The Ice Pilots made the ECHL’s Kelly Cup Playoffs in both seasons and captured the Brabham Cup in 2004-05 with 51 wins. The success of the franchise was a major accomplishment in the wake of Hurricane Ivan. This perseverance and dedication, the cornerstone attributes of Tim's career, earned him the Honor of becoming Pensacola's Sports Associations "Sportsman of the Year" in 2005.
A permanent fixture in front of the opposition net, Tim put together a very successful 13 year career in the NHL, 11 of them with the Philadelphia Flyers, signing as an undrafted rookie in 1980 after a stellar junior career with the Kingston Canadians. In that span, he accumulated 674 points (370 goals, 304 assists) in 655 regular season games. He reached the 50 goal mark in four different seasons, including the 1985-86 season, in which Kerr potted an NHL record 34 power play goals, a record which stands today. His numerous honors and recognitions include being selected as a NHL Second Team All-Star in 1986-87, being named to three NHL All-Star Games and being awarded the Bill Master ton Trophy for dedication & sportsmanship for the 1988-89 season. The Philadelphia Sportswriters Association recognized Tim as the most courageous athlete in 1992 by awarding him the Sog Grauley Memorial Award, and the Philadelphia Flyers inducted Tim Kerr into their Hall of Fame in 1994. |
