Navs NewsNavigators Win 9 Straight
The Navigators would strike early in this one against the Pittsfield Suns. In the bottom of the 2nd inning Jake McGuiggan (Harvard) got things started with a leadoff single. Tony Serino (UMass) then hit a ground ball in the shortstop hole that McGuiggan beat to second base putting runners at first and second. Pat Parker (Northern Essex) wasted no time hitting the first pitch he saw into the left center gap for a RBI double and Aaron Silbar (Columbia) joined in on the fun following up with a RBI single making the score 2-0 Navigators. A Pat Raley (UNC Charlotte) grounder was bobbled leading to a bases loaded log jam with one out for Brad Elwood (UNC Charlotte). Elwood battled in a prolonged 10-pitch at-bat before walking in another run and Tim Hendricks (Benedictine) knocked in one of his own with a sacrifice fly forcing the score to 4-0 Navigators after the second inning. After the madness of the second inning the game settled down tremendously. This lack of scoring highlighted by the brilliance of Navigator starter, Bobby Dean (URI), shutting down the Suns for five consecutive innings only allowing four hits and striking out four. The Navigators tacked a few more on the board in the 5th making it 7-0 when McGuiggan reached on a strike three pass ball by the catcher followed by a Serino walk, and back-to-back RBI singles from Parker and Silbar. Another walk to Raley and a wild pitch scored another and the Navigators looked to be running away with this one early. The Suns would add a few runs of their own in the 8th when Chad Funkhouser (Brevard) singled to start things off. Brendan Slattery (Manhattan) was then hit by a pitch and Jimmy Ricoy’s (UMass Lowell) RBI double knocked in the Suns first run of the game. Tito Marrero (Long Island) and Steve Dill (Harvard) both singled back to back scoring two more runs to make the score 8-3 Navigators. The final score of the game was 8-3 Navigators and will play again at home tomorrow 8/8 against the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs at 7 p.m. Click here to go back to news articles |
