NIAGARA FALLS, NY -- The Hornell Dodgers scored seven runs in the first en route to a 16-2 victory over the Niagara Power in their New York Collegiate Baseball League regular season finale at Sal Maglie Stadium. The victory along with two Olean losses to the Geneva Red Wings propelled the Dodgers into the #2 seed for the NYCBL postseason.
Ten different Dodgers collected hits, including two pitchers, and five finished with multiple hits as the blue & white closed the season out in style.
In the game-deciding first inning, Anthony Renz (Mansfield) hit a two-run double, Spencer Scorza (Monroe CC) had an RBI single, and Steven Goldstein (Stony Brook) had a three-run double to pace the big inning. The Dodgers sent 11 batters to the plate and collected six hits.
Niagara scored single runs in the second and fourth innings, but Hornell put the game out of reach with another big inning in the sixth. The Dodgers sent 10 batters to the plate in the inning including a two-run double by Chris Roeder (St. John Fisher), RBI doubles by Aaron Haag (Southeast Louisiana) and Renz, and an RBI single by Sean McCracken (Southern Nevada).
