On Saturday, September 30th, the Whitby Dunlops of the Allan Cup Hockey (ACH) OHA Senior “AAA” Hockey League will be playing the Clinton Radars in an exhibition game in Clinton at 7:30 PM. The Radars play in the Western Ontario Athletic Association (WOAA) Senior Hockey League and have won their league championship two years in a row.

The teams have received special permission to play the game as the WOAA is not operated under the jurisdictions of the OHA or Hockey Canada. The OHA and ACH requested permission to play as the leagues have many parallels and potential synergies that could benefit the Senior hockey category in Ontario.

OHA President Karen Phibbs is looking forward to attending the game, saying: “I am so excited about this game and the ability of these two championship teams to play exhibition. We appreciate the support of the OHF and Hockey Canada as this is a tremendous opportunity to showcase the WOAA and ACH leagues and Senior hockey.”

The Whitby Dunlops is a historic organization, having won the World Ice Hockey Championships in 1958 representing Canada and winning the Allan Cup in 1957 and 1958. More recently, the Dunlops lost in last year’s ACH Championship Series for the Robertson Cup to the Stoney Creek Generals in 5 games after an 18-6 record in the regular season.

Whitby Dunlops President & Chief Operating Officer Ian Young said, "We're always looking to promote the excellent quality that Senior hockey provides. This game will not only give us that exposure, it will provide a fast paced, exciting brand of hockey!"

The Clinton Radars were founded in 1994 and have won the WOAA Senior Hockey League Championship each of the past 2 seasons. Last year the Radars defeated the Petrolia Squires in 6 games to win the Championship after a regular season record of 12-6-1-1.

Clinton Radars Head Coach Jim Fritzley said, “We’re just excited to have the chance to play against such a storied and successful franchise as the Whitby Dunlops and the opportunity to represent our league. A lot of people are looking forward to this game in our community and we want to give them a competitive game.”

The game is scheduled for 7:30 PM on Saturday night at the Central Huron Community Complex in Clinton.
