The Amherstview Jets are proud to announce the nomination of veteran Cody Smith as Team Captain for the 2019-2020 campaign. 

With main camp only a month away, the Jets are working hard to build a solid team to bring great credit to our family, our community and our fans, on and off the ice.  Needless to say, veterans set the culture of a team and strong leadership is the foundation for success.

On July 24th, Head Coach Denis Duchesne announced Smith to take over the sought-after role of Captain:

“Cody exemplifies what a captain is all about, from his non-publicized charity work off the ice, to his hard work each and every shift.  Evan and I felt it was an easy choice with Cody returning for his overage year and sixth season!  Cody is a leader and players respect him and listen when he speaks and that’s what is needed. He takes over the captaincy from best friend Joey Mayer who graduated last season, so I have no doubt he will continue we’re Joey left off. A great team player and leader.”

Smith is a solid offensive presence for the Jets, on the ice, with 75 points in 44 games this past season.  Fast, smart and a solid playmaker, he makes those around him better, with a selfless style of play that only reflects his character.  Off the ice, Smith is a graduate from the Police Foundation program and studies Social Work, a clear testament to his ambitions to help those around him.  This summer, Cody has put together a community program to donate used hockey equipment for the indigenous youth from Moose Factory, ON. 

Looking ahead to 2019-2020, Smith says: “It is an honour being named captain; I've been a part of the Jets for six years now and always looked up to past captains. I know I have big shoes to fill but look forward to the task. This means the world to me and hope I can be a great leader for the team and be a role model for the younger players on the team. I look forward to a great season.”
