Wiffen nets hat trick, leads Trenton to 7-3 win over Hamilton

A hat trick by Brady Wiffen was the highlight in Golden Hawks' 7-3 win against the Hamilton Red Wings.

Wiffen's first goal came 11:57 into the first period. He then added goals at 12:15 into the first and at 5:42 into the second.

 

The Trenton Golden Hawks' penalty kill excelled, as Trenton gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

The Golden Hawks made Red Wings' goalies to work without much rest, getting 42 shots and forcing 35 saves. Corey Foster made 24 stops and Mark Sinclair made 11. Trenton stifled Hamilton's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Golden Hawks bested their season scoring average. Trenton has scored at the pace of 4.2 goals per game during the current campaign.

Trenton additionally got points from Danny Liscio, who also racked up two goals and one assist and Zach de Concilys, who also registered one goal and two assists. Trenton also got a goal from Nick Santoro as well. Other players who recorded assists for Trenton were Hunter Fargey, who had two and Mathew Thompson and Brett Seldon, who each chipped in one.

The Red Wings were led by Niko Porikos, who tallied one goal. Porikos scored 4:03 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Trenton. Ryan Laufman provided the assist. Mitch Reid also scored for Hamilton. More assists for Hamilton came via Connor Bramwell and Corey Caruso, who contributed one a piece.

Denny Dubblestyne recorded 24 saves for the Golden Hawks. Trenton incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Hamilton incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Red Wings ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brandon Kolaski was ejected from the game.
