Helvig stymies Newmarket, Toronto Lakeshore wins 3-1

Jeremy Helvig stood on his head and made 33 saves to lead the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots to a 3-1 victory over the Newmarket Hurricanes.

 

Toronto Lakeshore was sparked by Nathan Feric, who finished with one goal and one assist. Feric scored on the power play 17:26 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Toronto Lakeshore. The Patriots had gotten the advantage when Newmarket's Jesse Saban was sent off for elbowing. Doug Bonar picked up the assist.

Toronto Lakeshore stifled the Hurricanes' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Toronto Lakeshore also had goals scored by Brandon Willet and Marcus Rose, who scored one goal each.

Newmarket was held below its usual level of production. The Hurricanes put an average of 4.0 pucks into the net per game. Newmarket's offense rang up 34 shots on the Patriots' net.

The Hurricanes were led by Sam Hu, who scored the team's only goal. Hu scored 2:20 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Newmarket. Jacob Piltzmaker provided the assist.

Toronto Lakeshore incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Bo Bessette rejected 25 shots on goal for Newmarket. The Hurricanes incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For Newmarket, Taylor Joseph was ejected from the game.
