Cobourg uses shootout to best Kingston, 5-4 (1-0 SO)
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Cobourg Cougars defeated the Kingston Voyageurs in a shootout 5-4 (1-0 SO).
The two teams needed five turns to complete the shootout.
Cobourg overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Cougars fell behind 4-3 after a goal by Kingston's Alex Tonge at 12:43 in the third period. Cobourg tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Conner Hogg at 15:14 in the third period.
Connor Armour had two goals to lead the Cougars to victory. Armour scored at 11:20 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cobourg and again while 3:25 into the third to make the score 3-2 Cobourg.
Cobourg excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Cougars forced the Voyageurs goalie Alex Brooks-Potts to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots.
Alex D Oliveira also scored for Cobourg. Other players who recorded assists for Cobourg were Rylee McKinnon, TJ Melancon, Ryan OGrady, Liam Grande, and Taylor Gauld, who each chipped in one.
Kingston's offense rang up 36 shots on Cobourg's net.
The Voyageurs were led by Brody Heleno, who racked up one goal and one assist. Heleno scored 8:09 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Spencer Green picked up the assist. Kingston also got points from Brett Seney, who also had one goal and one assist and Mason Nowak, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Kingston received assists from Blake ONeill, Michael Crocock, and Adam Moodie, who contributed one a piece.
Nathan Perry made 32 saves for the Cougars on 36 shots. Cobourg incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Brooks-Potts recorded 38 saves for Kingston. The Voyageurs incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
