Early goals doom Newmarket, falls to Aurora, 7-2
The Aurora Tigers opened up a four-goal lead after the first period and did not look back en route to a 7-2 over the Newmarket Hurricanes.
Calvin Higley was all over the ice for Aurora, as he tallied one goal and three assists in the win. Higley scored on the power play 7:16 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Aurora. The Tigers had gotten the advantage when Newmarket's Adam Smith was sent off for hooking. Taylor McCloy picked up the assist.
Aurora's penalty kill excelled, as the Tigers gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays.
Aurora stifled the Hurricanes' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Tigers' offense rang up 40 shots on Newmarket's net. Aurora outdid its season average for goals scored. The Tigers average 4.0 goals per game. Aurora could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 32 minutes in penalties during the game.
Aurora additionally got points from McCloy, who also tallied two goals and two assists, Dylan Sikura, who also racked up one goal and two assists, and Kory Kennedy, who also had one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Aurora included Arran MacDonald and Adam DiBrina, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Aurora were Michael Keenan, Alex Gilmour, and Tyler Boston, who contributed one a piece.
The Hurricanes could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 38 minutes in penalties during the game.
Kevin Entmaa recorded 25 saves for the Tigers. Aurora registered three goals on eight power play opportunities. Bo Bessette made 33 saves for Newmarket on 40 shots.
