Stouffville wins tough contest against Toronto, 4-3

The Stouffville Spirit and the Toronto Junior Canadiens were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Stouffville made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-3.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Peyton Backus secured the win for the Spirit with a goal in the third period.

 

Backus had a great game for Stouffville, netting two goals.

The Spirit's penalty kill excelled, as Stouffville gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Stouffville also had goals scored by Jack OHara and Matthew Heffernan, who each put in one. In addition, Stouffville received assists from Justin Wain, who had two and Andres Kopstals and Joseph Deveny, who each chipped in one.

Toronto was led by Daniel Volpe, who racked up one goal and one assist. Volpe scored on the power play 9:47 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Stouffville. Aaron Thow assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Toronto included Connor Prudames and Cody Thompson, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Toronto were Kennedy Duguid and Anthony Repaci, who contributed one a piece.

Daniel Mannella recorded 26 saves for the Spirit. Stouffville incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Junior Canadiens' Nathan Colitto stopped 21 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Toronto incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
