Toronto Lakeshore survives Hamilton comeback, wins 5-3
The Toronto Lakeshore Patriots came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Hamilton Red Wings, but did just enough to escape with a 5-3 victory.
Toronto Lakeshore led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Patriots' Luke Carter's scored at 2:34 in the third period to put Toronto Lakeshore up 4-1.
The Patriots got the win on the strength of a great game by Nathan Feric, who had two goals and one assist. Feric scored the first of his two goals at 4:55 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Toronto Lakeshore. Doug Bonar provided the assist. Feric's next tally made the score 3-1 Toronto Lakeshore with 19:47 left in the third period. Rory Bell assisted on the tally.
Toronto Lakeshore kept Hamilton's goalie busy throughout the game, and Corey Foster made 31 saves on 36 shots.
Toronto Lakeshore additionally got points from Marcus Rose, who also had two goals and one assist. In addition, Toronto Lakeshore received assists from Niko Kovachis, who had three.
The Red Wings were led by Mitch Reid, who registered one goal and two assists. Reid scored on the power play 10:45 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Toronto Lakeshore. Hamilton had gotten the advantage when the Patriots' Feric was sent off for cross checking. Alex Zaccaria provided the assist. Hamilton also got points from Corey Caruso, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Hamilton also got a goal from Nathan Gomes as well.
Toronto Lakeshore's Jeremy Helvig stopped 22 shots out of the 25 that he faced. The Patriots incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Red Wings incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
