Huge game by Thompson boosts Trenton over North York, 7-4
Mathew Thompson had two goals and three assists to lead the Trenton Golden Hawks to a 7-4 victory over the North York Rangers.
Thompson's tallies came at 50 seconds into the first period to make the score 2-0 Trenton and 2:35 into the second to make the score 3-1 Trenton.
Trenton outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Golden Hawks average 4.2 goals per contest. Trenton was hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled six minors and one major for 17 minutes in penalty time.
Trenton also got points from Hunter Fargey, who also finished with two goals and two assists. Trenton also had goals scored by Ryan Hunter, Danny Liscio, and Bobby Polachek, who each put in one. More assists for Trenton came via Fabrizio Ricci, Zach de Concilys, and Brady Wiffen, who each chipped in one.
North York racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 18.0 minutes per game the Rangers had been spending in the box.
North York was helped by Matthew Whittaker, who tallied one goal. Whittaker scored 8:00 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Trenton. Kyle Thacker picked up the assist. Others who scored for North York included Valadao Adam, Alex Leader, and Brandon Gaudette, who scored one goal each. In addition, North York received assists from Ted Hunt and Gabriel Valenzuela, who contributed one a piece.
Denny Dubblestyne made 17 saves for the Golden Hawks on 21 shots. Trenton registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. The Golden Hawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Dylan Savory was ejected from the game. The Rangers took out Jason Pucciarelli after he had made 12 saves and installed Gianluca Baggetta in goal, where he finished with nine saves and the loss. North York registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For the Rangers, Tye Campbell was ejected from the game.
