North York wins tough contest against Stouffville, 4-2

The game between the North York Rangers and the Stouffville Spirit was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end North York emerged with a 4-2 win.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Liam Kerins secured the win for the Rangers with a goal in the second period.

 

North York was led by Kerins, who racked up one goal. Kerins scored on the power play 9:26 into the second period to make the score 3-2 North York. The Rangers earned a power play opportunity when Andres Kopstals was put in the box for cross checking. Corey Kalk picked up the assist.

North York forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up five minors and two majors for 20 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 18.0 minutes per game the Rangers had been spending in the box. North York put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Stouffville to score on any of its five power plays. The Rangers' offense rang up 34 shots on the Spirit's net.

North York also got points from Ted Hunt, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Kalk, who also had one goal and one assist. Tye Campbell also scored for North York. Other players who recorded assists for North York were John Carpino, who had two and Corey Helliwell, Gabriel Valenzuela, and Brandon Gaudette, who contributed one a piece.

Stouffville forced North York goalie Gianluca Baggetta to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

The Spirit were helped by Nick Thomakos, who registered one goal. Thomakos scored 8:22 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Kyler Challis provided the assist. Stouffville also got a goal from Daryl Thompson as well. More assists for Stouffville came via Michael Morgan and Cameron Lintner, who each chipped in one.

Baggetta rejected 39 shots on goal for the Rangers. North York registered one goal on three power play opportunities. For the Rangers, Campbell and Carpino were ejected from the contest. Daniel Mannella recorded 30 saves for Stouffville. The Spirit ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. Stouffville ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Graham Pickard was ejected from the game.
