Evans' big game bests Newmarket in 5-2 St. Michaels win

The Newmarket Hurricanes had trouble finding ways to stop the St. Michaels Buzzers, which beat Hurricanes, 5-2.

 

St. Michaels got the win with help from a great game by Jake Evans, who had one goal and two assists. Evans scored 7:58 into the second period to make the score 3-1 St. Michaels. Marco Ferraro picked up the assist.

The Buzzers' penalty kill excelled, as St. Michaels gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

The Buzzers stifled Newmarket's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

St. Michaels also had goals scored by Ian Edmondson, David Italiano, Ashur Elliot, and Noah Jordan, who scored one goal each. More assists for St. Michaels came via CJ Shugart, who had two and Jordan Schneider, AJ D''orazio, and Bron Loiselle, who contributed one a piece.

The Hurricanes forced St. Michaels goalie George Argiropoulos to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots.

Newmarket was led by Ian Farrell, who tallied one goal. Farrell scored 7:11 into the second period to make the score 2-1 St. Michaels. Jake Stirling provided the assist. Newmarket also got a goal from Anthony Trujillo as well. In addition, Newmarket received assists from Christian Dedonato, who had one.

Argiropoulos rejected 37 shots on goal for the Buzzers. St. Michaels incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. For the Buzzers, Schneider was ejected from the game. Jophrey Gregoire took the loss and made nine saves before being replaced by Bo Bessette who made 11 saves. The Hurricanes incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
