Trenton holds on for 3-2 win against Wellington
The Wellington Dukes tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Trenton Golden Hawks would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.
A goal by Ryan Kinsella put Trenton up 3-1 in the third period, but Wellington pulled to within one on Mike Robinson's tally 18:55 into the third period.
The Golden Hawks' penalty kill excelled, as xTrenton gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.
The Golden Hawks' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as xTrenton finished with 17 penalty minutes.
Others who scored for xTrenton included Tyler Mayea and Hunter Fargey, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for xTrenton were Fabrizio Ricci, Dylan Savory, and Brady Wiffen, who contributed one a piece.
The Dukes put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Golden Hawks to score on any of their three power plays. xWellington forced xTrenton goalie Denny Dubblestyne to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.
xWellington also got a goal from Luc Brown as well. More assists for xWellington came via Trevor Cope, Abbott Girduckis, Joe McKeown, and Erick Delaurentis, who each chipped in one.
The Golden Hawks' Dubblestyne stopped 34 shots out of the 36 that he faced. xTrenton ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Shaquille Hickey was ejected from the game. Tyson Teichmann made 16 saves before being replaced by Taylor Welsh, who took the loss and made seven saves. The Dukes ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. For xWellington, Alex Carnevale was ejected from the game.
