Gonzalez's goals lift Buffalo to 7-4 victory over yAurora
Nico Gonzalez was all over the ice for the Buffalo Jr. Sabres, as he tallied two goals in Buffalo's 7-4 win over the Aurora Tigers.
Gonzalez scored at 2:25 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Buffalo and again while on the power play 17:59 into the first to make the score 2-0 xBuffalo.
The Jr. Sabres forced Tigers' netminders to work all game long, finishing with 34 shots and forcing 27 saves. Andy Munroe made 14 stops and Kevin Entmaa made 13. xBuffalo surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Jr. Sabres average 4.8 goals per game. xBuffalo struggled on the penalty kill, allowing yAurora to score three power play goals on five chances.
xBuffalo also got points from Dennis Gilbert, who also had one goal and one assist, Ryan Schmelzer, who also tallied two goals and two assists, Josh Gabriel, who also registered one goal and three assists, and Michael Ederer, who also racked up one goal and two assists. In addition, xBuffalo received assists from Daniel Lafontaine, Nick Desimone, Ben Casale, Tim Kielich, Dylan Howatt, and Pat Egan, who each chipped in one.
The Jr. Sabres were unable to stop the Tigers from sending pucks towards the net, and yAurora eventually piled up 39 shots on goal. The Tigers' defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. yAurora gives up 2.3 goals per game.
The Tigers were helped by Robert Angiolella, who had one goal. Angiolella scored on the power play 19:20 into the second period to make the score 4-3 xBuffalo. yAurora had gotten the advantage when xBuffalo's Nolan Sheeran was sent off for tripping. Michael Laidley provided the assist. yAurora also got a goal from Adam DiBrina as well. More assists for yAurora came via Dylan Sikura, who had two and Austin Rigney, Noah Delmas, Tyler Boston, and Kory Kennedy, who contributed one a piece.
Brandon Mueller recorded 35 saves for the Jr. Sabres. xBuffalo incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Tigers incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
