Aurora uses early goal to top Newmarket, 2-1

The Aurora Tigers took the lead against the Newmarket Hurricanes in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 2-1 victory.

A goal 11:59 into the the first period by Calvin Higley proved to be the game winner, and powered Aurora to the victory Tyler Boston provided the assist.

 

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, Newmarket faces elimination next time out.

Higley had two goals to lead the Tigers to victory.

The Hurricanes were stymied by Aurora netminder Kevin Entmaa, who stopped 26 shots during the victory. Entmaa certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.33 entering the contest.

The Tigers stifled Newmarket's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Aurora kept the Hurricanes' goalie busy throughout the game, and Jophrey Gregoire made 37 saves on 39 shots.

In addition, Aurora received assists from Austin Rigney, Taylor McCloy, and Dylan Sikura, who contributed one a piece.

Newmarket was led by Nik Coric, who scored the team's only goal. Coric scored 11:13 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Kyle Stephan picked up the assist.

The Tigers incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Hurricanes incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
