Former Oshawa Legionaires netminder Andrew Engelage (photo credit - Matt Santos/Central Hockey League), now with the Arizona Sundogs, was named the winner of the Scott Brower Award as the Central Hockey League's Most Outstanding Goaltender.

A native of Oshawa, Ontario, the 6’5”, 206 lbs. netminder played his first season of junior hockey in the OJHL as a member of his hometown Oshawa Legionnaires back in 2005-06, joining the team midway through the season from the Junior 'B' Tecumseh Chiefs. Engelage posted a 3-10-2 record in 16 games played, including his first career junior shutout. The following season, he made the jump to the OHL, joining the Windsor Spitfires and would ultimately help lead them to a Memorial Cup title in 2009-10.

Below is the official press release from the Central Hockey League website (www.centralhockeyleague.com):

The Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today that Andrew Engelage of the Arizona Sundogs has been named the recipient of the 2013-14 Central Hockey League’s Most Outstanding Goaltender award (Scott Brower Award).

The award is ‘presented annually to the Central Hockey League’s most outstanding goaltender, in memory of Scott Brower, former CHL goaltender and team staff member.’  Voting was done by CHL head coaches, communications departments and selected media members in each market.

It was the closest race of any of the major awards with Engelage earning 16 of the 41 votes on ballots returned beating out Missouri’s Shane Owen by just two votes.  Along with Engelage and Owen, Rapid City’s Tim Boron, Denver’s Kent Patterson and Quad City’s Ty Rimmer and were also finalists for the Scott Brower Award.

Engelage, 25, is in his first season in the CHL and his fifth season overall.  He currently sits with a 28-14-5 record (28 wins are tied for third most in the league) and his 2.41 goals against average is second overall and his .920 save percentage is second.  No goaltender has played more minutes than Engelage (2959:09) and his four shutouts are tied for the league lead.

Earlier this season, the Oshawa, Ontario native became just the second CHL goalie to record three consecutive shutouts as his scoreless minute streak of 227:22 sits as the second longest in league history.  During the months of January and February, Engelage was nearly unbeatable posting a 14-3-4 record allowing two goals or fewer in 13 of those 21 games.

The final two individual awards yet to be determined are the Joe Burton Scoring Championship and the CHL Most Valuable Player and both will be announced on Monday, March 31.
