Cobourg Cougars netminder Nathan Perry (photo credit - Shawn Muir/OJHL Images) has confirmed his commitment to join the Sacred Heart University Pioneers beginning with the 2014-15 Atlantic Hockey season.  Sacred Heart is located in Fairfield, Connecticut and is the home of former Cougars’ standouts Evan Jasper and Justin Danforth.

Perry arrived in Cobourg in October of the 2012-13 season and immediately became an integral part of the club’s success, posting a 22-9-1 record with a 2.48 GAA and helping lead the club into the playoffs after a sluggish start. His efforts earned him runner-up honours as the Gongshow Gear Goaltender-of-the-Month in December and he was a member of the OJHL East Division All-Star Team that won the 2012 Central Canada Cup All-Star Challenge that was held in Wellington, Ontario.

This past season saw Nathan continue his stellar play, with a 26-10-2 record and stingy 2.28 GAA, and was recognized for his efforts by being named the Gongshow Gear Goaltender-of-the-Month for November, while also finishing third among all netminders in goals against average to be named an OJHL 2nd Team All-Star.  He once again competed at the Central Canada Cup All-Star Challenge, this time as a member of the North-East Conference All-Star Team in Terrebonne, Quebec.

“It’s a great feeling to be committed to an excellent school such as Sacred Heart” states Perry. “I can’t wait to get down there and start a new journey. I can’t thank the Cougars staff and organization enough for helping me achieve this dream. I would also like to thank the Cougars’ fans for all the support they have provided over the last two seasons."

Cougars Head Coach Curtis Hodgins says, “Nate Perry is extremely deserving of his commitment to Sacred Heart and the Pioneers are very lucky to have him. We could not have asked for any more from Nate in his two seasons with us, he was a great leader for us on and off the ice. We look forward to watching him have great success at the NCAA level.”

Congratulations to Nathan and best of luck at the next level!
