Hamilton Red Wings defenceman Niko Porikos (photo credit - Brian Watts/OJHL Images) has confirmed his commitment to join his hometown University of Michigan Wolverines beginning with the 2014-15 Big Ten Conference season.
The Ann Arbor, Michigan native has played the past two seasons with the Red Wings out of the Victory Honda Under-18 program in Michigan. Porikos joined Hamilton as a 19-year old in 2012-13 and was one of the bright spots in a challenging season, finishing third among the club's rearguards in scoring with 12 points in 48 regular season games played. This past season, the veteran was a leader and stabilizing force on a much improved squad, lead the Red Wings d-corps with 9 goals and 21 points in 51 contests to also rank among the top 40 in the entire OJHL.
Congratulations to Niko on the commitment and best of luck in his D1 collegiate career!
