Milton boosted by Lazzarino's play in net, beats Toronto Jr. Canadiens 2-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Cosimo Lazzarino helped the Milton Icehawks defeat the Toronto Jr. Canadiens Junior Canadiens, 2-1.

 

Milton's penalty kill excelled, as the Icehawks gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

Milton was paced by Johnathon Schaefer, who grabbed one goal. Schaefer scored on the power play 18:57 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Milton. A tripping penalty on Michael Cuddemi had put the Icehawks on the power play. Alex Riche picked up the assist.

Milton stifled Toronto Jr. Canadiens' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Icehawks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 18 minutes in penalties during the game.

Milton also got points from Riche, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Milton came via Sean Perichak, Jake Baird, and Mitch Graham, who contributed one each.

The Junior Canadiens were held below their usual level of production. Toronto Jr. Canadiens averages 3.3 goals per game. The Junior Canadiens forced Milton goalie Lazzarino to work between the pipes, taking 48 shots.

Toronto Jr. Canadiens was led by Andrew Mullen, who scored the team's only goal. Mullen scored 4:54 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Adam DeLuca assisted on the tally.

Lazzarino rejected 47 shots on goal for the Icehawks. Milton registered one goal on six power play opportunities. The Icehawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Garrett Johnston was ejected from the game. Nathan Colitto recorded 17 saves for the Junior Canadiens. Toronto Jr. Canadiens incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For the Junior Canadiens, Dakota Brancatella was ejected from the game.
