Cartney stymies Wellington, Pickering wins 2-1

Jordan Cartney had a standout game with 26 saves, and the Pickering Panthers beat the Wellington Dukes 2-1.

 

Pickering was led by Joseph Mitchell, who tallied one goal. Mitchell scored 13:06 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Pickering. Michael Giacometti picked up the assist.

The Panthers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Wellington power plays.

Pickering also got points from Giacometti, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Pickering were Daniel Butchart and Riley Devine, who each chipped in one.

Wellington was led by Joe McKeown, who scored the team's only goal. McKeown scored 16:49 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wellington. Brandon Kosik assisted on the tally.

Pickering incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Dukes' Taylor Welsh stopped 27 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Wellington incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors.
