Washkurak stymies Oakville, Cobourg wins 2-1

Austin Washkurak stood on his head and made 36 saves to lead the Cobourg Cougars to a 2-1 victory over the Oakville Blades.

 

Cobourg was led by Dawson Theede, who had one goal. Theede scored 6:48 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Cobourg. Matt Carroll assisted on the tally.

The Cougars' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Oakville power plays.

Connor Armour also scored for Cobourg. Other players who recorded assists for Cobourg were Connor Hogg and Cole Langan, who contributed one each.

Oakville excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Blades' offense operated below their season average. Oakville puts an average of 4.5 pucks into the net per game. The Blades' offense rang up 37 shots on Cobourg's net.

Oakville was led by Christian Rajic, who scored the team's only goal. Rajic scored 16:57 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Max Lindsay picked up the assist.

The Cougars incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Cobourg ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Austin Veleke was ejected from the game. Brendan McGlynn made 28 saves for the Blades on 30 shots. Oakville incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
