OJHL STARS TAKE HOME OHA AWARDS
Eight Ontario Junior Hockey League stars, as well as a championship coach, were announced as 2010-11 OHA Award winners recently and will be honoured during a ceremony at the Hockey Hall of Fame on Friday, June 10, 2011.
Headlining the list of winners are North York Rangers netminder Ryan Demelo (pictured - photo credit: Izak Westgate/HHOF) and Hamilton Red Wings captain Zach Hyman.
Demelo's stellar season was recognized as he added to his OJHL MVP Award by winning OHA Junior 'A' Player of the Year. Hyman, who was recently named the CJHL Player of the Year, takes home the BJ Monro Memorial Award as the OHA's Top Professional Prospect. Hyman was the only NHL drafted player to play in the OJHL this season, after being taken in the 5th round, 123rd overall by the Florida Panthers in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
Also honoured with an individual award is OJHL champion Wellington Dukes head coach Marty Abrams, who takes home OHA Coach of the Year after leading to the Dukes to a berth in the RBC Cup National Junior 'A' Championship after winning both an OJHL title and the Dudley Hewitt Cup.
The OJHL would sweep all six positions in the Top Prospects Award and are hoping for a banner year at the upcoming NHL Entry Draft in St. Paul, Minnesota. Top Prospect Award winners are as follows:
