Aurora beats Oakville 2-1 after comeback scare

The Aurora Tigers survived a determined comeback attempt by the Oakville Blades on the way to a 2-1 win.

A goal by Michael Laidley put Aurora up 2-0 in the second period, but Oakville pulled to within one on Kamil Tkaczuk's tally 10:42 into the third period.

The Tigers were led by goalie Marcus Semiao, who finished with 25 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Semiao will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 1.89.

Aurora stifled the Blades' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Tigers' offense operated below their season average. Aurora averages 4.3 goals per game.

Callum Fryer also scored for Aurora. In addition, Aurora received assists from Drake Board, Vince Figliomeni, Keaton Ratcliffe, and Eric Williams, who each chipped in one.

Oakville excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. The Blades were held below their usual level of production. Oakville puts an average of 3.7 pucks into the net per game. The Blades' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Oakville finished with 16 penalty minutes.

More assists for Oakville came via Sean Kohler and Ross Sloan, who contributed one each.

The Tigers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Brendan McGlynn recorded 26 saves for the Blades. Oakville registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. The Blades ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Austin Broadhurst was ejected from the game.
