Stouffville falls to Kingston in overtime, 5-4 (OT)
The Kingston Voyageurs pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over the Stouffville Spirit on a clutch goal by Alex Tonge.
After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, Stouffville faces elimination next time out.
Kingston came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Voyageurs trailed 4-2 after a power play goal by the Spirit's Christopher Brill-Morgan at 2:32 in the third period. Kingston knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Alex Stothart at 18:51 in the third period.
Tonge had two goals and one assist to lead the Voyageurs. Tonge scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 2:30 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Adam Brady assisted on the tally. Tonge's next tally on the power play made the score 5-4 Kingston with 9:09 left in overtime. Joey Beaudoin picked up the assist.
Kingston forced Stouffville goalie Aaron Taylor to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots.
Kingston also got points from Brady, who also had one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Corey Caruso also scored for Kingston. Other players who recorded assists for Kingston were Blake ONeill, Ryan Watson, Michael Crocock, and Cole Bolton, who contributed one each.
The Spirit's offense rang up 35 shots on the Voyageurs' net.
Stouffville was helped by Nick Thomakos, who finished with one goal. Thomakos scored on the power play 15:08 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Stouffville. Brill-Morgan assisted on the tally. Stouffville additionally got points from Brodie Tutton, who also registered one goal and one assist and Brill-Morgan, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Stouffville also got a goal from Joseph Deveny as well. More assists for Stouffville came via Tyson Bruce, Alex Gilmour, and Michael Giacometti, who each chipped in one.
Kingston's Daniel Urbani stopped 31 shots out of the 35 that he faced. The Voyageurs ended with no penalties and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Taylor rejected 44 shots on goal for the Spirit. Stouffville finished the contest with no penalties and went 2-for-6 with the man advantage.
