Cobourg blows out Trenton, 5-2
The Cobourg Cougars had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-2 win over the Trenton Golden Hawks.
With the win, Cobourg avoided elimination to make the series score 3-1 in the best of seven series.
Trenton was unable to stop the Cougars from sending pucks towards the net, and Cobourg eventually piled up 42 shots on goal.
The Cougars were helped by Cole Langan, who had one goal and one assist. Langan scored 15:16 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Cobourg. Mitchell Gibson picked up the assist. Cobourg also got points from Liam Grande, who also registered one goal and one assist, Gibson, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Connor Armour, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Cobourg also got a goal from Theo Lewis as well. In addition, Cobourg received assists from Riley Stillman, who had one and Matt Carroll, who had two.
The Golden Hawks forced Cobourg goalie Stefano Durante to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.
Trenton was helped by Hunter Fargey, who tallied one goal. Fargey scored 17:45 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Cobourg. Matt Pizzo provided the assist. Chrisitian Lloyd also scored for Trenton. Other players who recorded assists for Trenton were Zach de Concilys, who had one.
Durante recorded 30 saves for the Cougars. Cobourg incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Cougars ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Rylee McKinnon was ejected from the game. Justin Kapelmaster made 37 saves for the Golden Hawks on 42 shots. Trenton incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
