Trenton Golden Hawks alternate captain Zach de Concilys (photo credit - Amy Deroche/OJHL Images) has confirmed his commitment to join the Sacred Heart University Pioneers beginning with the 2015-16 Atlantic Hockey season.

Born on July 19, 1994, Zach de Concilys is a native of St. Catharines, Ontario and grew up playing minor hockey in his hometown, ultimately finishing with the St. Catharines Falcons Minor Midget ‘AAA’ squad in 2009-10.

During his minor midget season, de Concilys also played high school hockey for the St. Denis Morris Catholic High School Redmen and would lead the team to the All-Ontario OFSAA ‘AAA/AAAA’ Championship.  During the tournament, the speedy forward would score the semi-final, overtime-winning goal, en route to then defeating St. Marcellinus 4-1 in the championship game.

Expected to be selected in the OHL Priority Selection, de Concilys went undrafted and would join the nearby Port Colborne Pirates Junior ‘B’ club in the Golden Horseshoe loop of the GOJHL.  Following a respectable rookie season that saw him post 10 goals and 27 points in 51 games played, de Concilys hit full stride in 2011-12, leading the Pirates in scoring with 26 goals and 67 points in just 45 regular season contests.  His efforts earned a spot on both the Golden Horseshoe Conference All-Star Team that would split a pair of games versus the Midwestern Conference, recording an assist in each game, as well as the Midwestern/Golden Horseshoe Prospects Team, notching a pair of assists during a 9-6 loss in Windsor, Ontario.  Finishing fifth in overall scoring in the Conference, he would take home year-end Golden Horseshoe Most Improved Player honours as the Pirates fell to St. Catharines in the league championship series in six games.

De Concilys would sign that summer with the Whitby Fury and get his first taste of OJHL action, recording two assists in eight games played before being released and rejoining the Junior ‘B’ Pirates.  He wasted no time picking-up where he left off, finishing fourth on the club in scoring with 22 goals and 72 points in just 41 games played.  Once again, he would participate in the GOJHL All-Star Game, recording a goal for the Midwestern/Golden Horseshoe All-Stars during a 7-5 loss.  This time, however, the Pirates were upset by Welland in a thrilling, seven game semi-final series to end their season.

Pegged to join the St. Catharines Falcons entering the 2013-14 season, de Concilys was recruited by the Golden Hawks and made an instant impact with his new club.  He finished second in scoring on the Hawks with 39 assists and 56 points in 52 games played, including an outstanding November that saw him finish as runner-up for the OJHL Gongshow Gear North-East Conference Player-of-the-Month Award after notching 19 points in 10 contests.  His efforts would earn an All-Star position for the third consecutive year, playing for the North-East Conference squad at the 2013 Central Canada Cup All-Star Challenge that was held in Terrebonne, Quebec.  De Concilys continued his progression in the post-season, leading Trenton with 10 points during two rounds before falling to the regular season champion Kingston Voyageurs in six games.

This season, de Concilys would team with Brady Wiffen to lead the Golden Hawks to a second place finish, finishing as runner-up to the Aurora Tigers, in the OJHL regular season standings, while also capturing the East Division title.  He would finish second to Wiffen in scoring and third overall in the league with 83 points in 52 regular season contests.  De Concilys' season included a spot on Team OJHL Hawerchuk, notching three points at the 2014 Central Canada Cup All-Star Challenge, and winning the Gongshow Gear North-East Conference Player-of-the-Month Award in December with 17 points in 8 games played.  Following the season the playmaker would also be named a 2nd Team All-Star and then finish 10th in post-season scoring with 20 points as the Golden Hawks were ultimately upset by Kingston in the North-East Conference Championship Series.

Congratulations to Zach and best of luck in the NCAA!
