GOULET NAMED VEES GENERAL MANAGER
The Kingston Voyageurs are excited to announce that Peter Goulet (pictured during 2014 Central Canada Cup All-Star Challenge as assistant coach of Team CCHL Yzerman - photo credit: Tim Bates/OJHL Images) has been hired as the new General Manager for Club, effective June 1, 2015. Goulet was previously with the Voyageurs as the Assistant General Manager and Assistant Coach from 2006-09, including the Vees 2008-09 season's OPJHL league title, Dudley Hewitt Cup championship and an appearance at the Canadian Jr.A Championships, the RBC Cup.
Midway through the 2009-10 season, Goulet accepted a position as the General Manger and Head Coach with the Nepean Raiders of the Central Canadian Junior Hockey League. From the start of his tenure with the Raiders, to the recently concluded 2014-15 season, Goulet has compiled a 172-126-14-20 regular season record along with six play-off series victories. In 2011-12, he set franchise records for best record (46-11-4-1), wins in a season (46) and points in a season (97). These accomplishments were accompanied by a CCHL regular season title along with the CCHL league championship, rallying from a 3-2 games deficit. Competing in the Fred Page Cup against the best from the Quebec Junior Hockey League and the Maritime Junior Hockey League, the Raiders lost in the final by a single goal, 3-2 in regulation to the Woodstock Slammers to advance to the RBC Cup. For his efforts, Goulet was named the General Manager and Coach of the Year in the CCHL. The following season Goulet and Raiders almost duplicated their league championship upsetting the regular season winners, the Ottawa Jr. Senators in the semi-finals to find themselves in a rematch versus Cornwall.
Goulet has also been instrumental in the development of his players including prospects Philippe Gadoury with the Halifax Mooseheads and Mac Weegar playing with the Florida Panthers farm team in San Antonio of the American Hockey League. He was also had a number of players obtain NCAA D1 scholarships attending Princeton, Colgate, Lake Superior State, Robert Morris, R.I.T, and Clarkson Universities. More than a dozen others accepted offers to play at NCAA D3 institutes and Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) schools.
His successes have led him to be named as an Assistant Coach in 2013 for Team Canada East at the World Junior “A” Hockey Challenge held in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia and recently, he was named as an Assistant Coach for the Brampton Beast of the ECHL.
“We are elated that we were able to sign Peter as our new General Manager,” said Dr. Dijana Oliver, owner of the Voyageurs. “He is well respected in the hockey community, comes highly recommended, and his track record speaks for itself,” she added.
“When this opportunity was presented to me by Dr. Oliver, I was very excited that they want to sit down and talk to me about the General Manager position with the Club,” said Goulet. “Before sitting down with Dijana I wanted to speak with Gregg Rosen owner of the Brampton Beast and Cary Kaplan, their General Manager, as I had just accepted a position as an Assistant Coach with the team and I am very grateful to both Gregg and Cary for the opportunity they had just given to me. Once I got the approval from Brampton, I sat down with my very supportive wife Shannon, and asked for her thoughts on the whole idea of being involved with both teams. After our discussion, as she has always done, she gave her full support moving forward to pursue the opportunity with the Kingston Voyageurs along with my new opportunity with the Brampton Beast,” said Goulet. “Dijana and I started our discussions and we were able to come to an agreement. This was a great offer that I could not pass up,” added Goulet.
The Voyageurs will open the 2015-16 with their Evaluation Camp to be held on Friday, August 7th and Saturday August 8th, followed by Main Camp on Saturday, August 15th and Sunday, August 16th
