ULETT COMMITS TO UOIT
Trenton Golden Hawks forward Loren Ulett (photo credit - Amy Deroche/OJHL Images) has confirmed his commitment to join the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) Ridgebacks beginning with the 2015-16 OUA season.
The 6', 214 lbs. native of Port Perry, Ontario joined the OJHL as a 16-year old member of the Streetsville Derbys in 2010-11, out of the South Central Coyotes Minor Midget 'AAA' program. Originally a defenceman, Ulett brought his hard-nosed style of play to the OJHL, leading the Derbys with 134 penalty minutes, the eighth highest total in the league, while also notching 13 points in 47 regular season contests.
Ulett made the move to Cobourg as the two teams merged that summer and would spend just over a full season with the club. Playing 47 regular season games in 2011-12, Ulett once again led his team with 117 penalty minutes, helping the Cougars to a second place finish in the always strong East Division standings; the club's best finish since 2001-02. After only nine games the following year, Ulett was traded to division rival Trenton, where he would also close out his junior career this past season.
The 2012-13 season saw career offensive high's for the power forward, notching 13 goals and 26 points in 52 games played, while leading his team in penalty minutes for the third consecutive year with 115 pim. Now being utilized as a forward, Ulett helped the Golden Hawks not only capture the East Division crown, but the OJHL Regular Season Championship as well, earning a look from the OHL's Kingston Frontenacs, who he would join for the entire 2013-14 season.
Returning to the OJHL this past year, Ulett was a more complete player, ready to play in all situations and would record 21 points in just 35 regular season games, while also leading the entire OJHL with 167 penalty minutes, helping the Golden Hawks capture a third East Division regular season title in four seasons. Ultimately his junior career would end as Trenton fell to Kingston in the North-East Conference Championship Series.
"Loren (Ulett) will be able to step into the UOIT lineup and make a contribution from the get-go with his acumen in the face-off circle, his bone crushing hits and his responsible two-way play," said Trenton Golden Hawks General Manager and Head Coach Jerome Dupont.
"We are excited to have Loren (Ulett) commit to us and feel that he can be value added immediately," said Ridgebacks Head Coach Craig Fisher. "He along with the rest of our roster should make for a team to be reckoned with."
Congratulations to Loren on the commitment and best of luck at University!
