SHAW COMMITS TO HOBART
Oakville Blades defenceman Tanner Shaw (photo credit - Kevin Sousa/OJHL Images) has confirmed his commitment to join the Hobart College Statesmen beginning with the 2015-16 ECAC West Conference season.
The Toronto, Ontario native got his first taste of the OJHL as a 16-year old, playing three games as an affiliate with the Aurora Tigers out of the Don Mills Flyers program in 2010-11. He joined the Tigers full-time in 2011-12 and would spend the next two seasons patrolling their blueline, playing 36 and 41 regular season games respectively while helping the club to a North Division title in 2012-13.
Duing the off-season, Shaw would be on the move, joining the Pickering Panthers for the 2013-14 season, where he would take his game to another level, leading the club's d-corps in scoring with 6 goals and 33 points in 52 regular season contests. His offensive outburst tied him for 14th among all OJHL rearguards, while his 27 assists ranked top 10 overall and helped return the Panthers to OJHL post-season action.
Once again on the move, Shaw was a key acquisition last September by the Blades. He added an offensive punch from the blueline to become one of the most explosive two-way defensemen in the OJHL, finishing 11th in overall scoring with 35 points in just 45 regular season games played. His offensive output was highlighted with a hat-trick on November 14th, scoring three goals past Connor Ryckman in the final ten minutes of the third period to defeat the Newmarket Hurricanes 5-0.
In 174 career OJHL games, Tanner finished with 15 goals and 87 points playing for Oakville, Aurora and Pickering.
Congratulations to Tanner on the commitment and best of luck in the NCAA.
