Aurora Tigers defenceman Callum Fryer (photo credit - Robert John Boucher/OJHL Images) has confirmed his commitment to join the University of Massachusetts (Amherst) Minutemen beginning with the 2015-16 Hockey East season.

The Oakville, Ontario native joined the Tigers in 2013-14 as a 17-year old out of the Halton Hurricanes Midget 'AAA' program.  Fryer would notch 5 points in 31 games played as a rookie during the club's march to the OJHL Championship Series, ultimately finishing as runner-up to the champion Toronto Lakeshore Patriots.

Fryer returned for season two, bigger, stronger and counted on to play a leading role as one of the club's shutdown guys on the blueline.  He did not disappoint during an eventful season that would see him participate in virtually every extra event that was possible.  Scouts would first take notice as he was named to Team OJHL Hawerchuk, notching one assist, during the 2014 Central Canada Cup All-Star Challenge held in Toronto.  His play then led to being chosen to participate in the Team Canada East Final Selection Camp, where he made the squad and went on to compete at the 2014 World Junior 'A' Challenge that was held in Kindersley, Saskatchewan.  Not only did Fryer compete, but he was one of Canada East's best players and was the lone member of the team that was named a Tournament All-Star.

He returned to Aurora with a huge boost of confidence and continued that play into the final months of the season, while also being named a member of Team East for the 2015 CJHL Prospects Game that was held in Oakville, Ontario.  Finishing the year with 16 points in 41 regular season contests, Fryer was a key member of the club's push to capture their first OJHL regular season crown since 2007, and although disappointed with a second round playoff loss to Kingston, he would be named runner-up by NHL Central Scouting for the OJHL Top Prospect Award.

Congratulations to Callum on the commitment!
