2015-16 REGULAR SEASON SCHEDULE RELEASED

The Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) today released its 2015-16 regular season schedule, while also announcing the dates for the newly created Conference Showcase Weekends that will take place in January.

The OJHL schedule consists of 594 games, featuring 22 teams with inter-conference play continuing after being introduced in 2013-14.  Each club will once again play a 54 game regular season schedule, including the second set of Conference Showcase games.

Below is the breakdown:

•    25 home games, 25 road games, 2 Governors’ Showcase games, 2 Conference Showcase games
•    2 home games & 2 road games versus each club within same Conference (40 games total)
•    5 home games & 5 road games versus clubs in other Conference (10 games total)
•    2 Governors’ Showcase games versus other Conference
•    2 Conference Showcase games within same Conference

The OJHL Board of Governors voted at the 2015 Annual General Meeting to add an extra set of Conference Showcase Weekends that will take place in January, with the hosts of each to be determined at a later date.  While for the first time in history, the OJHL (and the province of Ontario) will host the annual World Junior ‘A’ Challenge with the Cobourg Cougars and Whitby Fury playing as co-hosts for the international event. The OJHL will play no regular season games during this period to allow all fans an opportunity to witness this world-class tournament and tickets for the event will be available for purchase beginning in August.

Highlights of the 2015-16 schedule include:

•    Opening night is Friday, September 4, 2015 with three games on the agenda, taking place in Burlington, Lindsay and Trenton
•    The Toronto Patriots will celebrate their second consecutive OJHL Championship at their home opener on September 9 when they play host to Orangeville.
•    After relocating from Hamilton, the OJHL’s newest franchise, the Markham Royals, open their season at the Markham Community Centre on Friday, September 11, 2015 versus the Stouffville Spirit
•    Annual Governors’ Showcase to be held in Buffalo, New York, the first time held in the United States, from September 22-24, 2015 at the HarborCenter
•    The annual Central Canada Cup All-Star Challenge (now Eastern Canada Cup including the MHL) will be hosted by the CCHL’s Cornwall Colts from November 16-18, 2015
•    The 2015 World Junior ‘A’ Challenge will be played from December 14-20, 2015 in Cobourg & Whitby, Ontario
•    The regular season ends on Saturday, February 27, 2016 with three games to close out the schedule, and playoffs beginning the following Wednesday
