Toronto Patriots defenceman Ryan Wells (photo credit - Andy Corneau/OJHL Images) has officially signed with the Ontario Hockey League's Mississauga Steelheads for the 20116-17 season.

The 17-year old Mississauga, Ontario native is a product of the Mississauga Reps Minor Midget 'AAA' program, helping the team to a berth in the 2015 OHL Cup tournament, while being selected following the season by his hometown Mississauga Steelheads in the 15th round, 285th overall, of the 2015 OHL Priority Selection.  Wells would split last season between the Toronto Nationals Midget 'AAA' squad and the GOJHL's Brampton Bombers before joining the OJHL this season.  After initially signing with the Georgetown Raiders, Wells was moved to the Toronto Patriots prior to the season and has registered 13 points in 28 games played thus far to lead the club's d-corps in scoring.

Congratulations to Ryan on the signing!

Below is the official press release from the Mississauga Steelheads website (www.mississaugasteelheads.com):

The Mississauga Steelheads are pleased to announce the commitment of defenseman Ryan Wells, the team’s fifteenth-round draft selection, 285th overall, in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection. Wells was originally drafted from the Mississauga Minor Midget AAA Reps organization.

The Mississauga native began this season with the OJHL’s Toronto Patriots, recording 12 points in 26 games. Wells participated earlier this season in the Eastern Canada Cup All-Star Challenge, as part of Team Nieuwendyk in mid-November. Ryan played the 2015 – 16 season with the Toronto Nationals Major Midget AAA team, while also spending time with the GOJHL’s Brampton Bombers.

“Wells is a mobile puck-moving defender, whose game has shown great improvement over the last two seasons. Ryan’s commitment improves the depth of our defense corps” explained general manager James Boyd.

The Mississauga Steelheads welcome Ryan and the Wells family to the organization!
