TRENTON GOLDEN HAWKS WIN SECOND STRAIGHT DUDLEY HEWITT CUP CHAMPIONSHIP

With a chance to represent the Central Canada Region at the 2017 RBC Cup in Cobourg, Ontario, the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s champions, the Georgetown Raiders took on the hosts, the Trenton Golden Hawks in the 2017 Dudley Hewitt Cup final on May 6th in a 7:00 p.m start. Georgetown needed seven games to capture the 2017 Buckland Cup OJHL final title over the Golden Hawks while also winning 1 – 0 in their round robin meeting with Trenton earlier in the week in the central region championship.

With 54 seconds left in the opening period, Trenton’s Anthony Sorrentino finds the back of Raider goaltender Nicholas Latinovich’s net to send the Golden Hawks into the first intermission up 1 – 0. Dawson Baker and Brandon Marinelli drew the assists on Sorrentino’s goal. With a three on two, Jordan Crocker fires a goal past Trenton netminder Chris Janzen at 16:25 of the second to even the game 1 – 1 with a unassisted Raider goal. with the puck coming from behind Latinovich’s net, Michael Silveri buries the winning goal for the Golden Hawks 3:31 into the final period with a pass from Trenton’s James Thomson.  Georgetown netminder Nicholas Latinovich turned away 24 of 26 shots while Golden Hawk goaltender Chris Janzen stopped 33 of 34 shots in the 2017 Dudley Hewitt Cup championship win.

The Golden Hawks for the second straight season will now head down 90 minutes highway 401 from May 13th – May 21st to represent the Central Canada region at the 2017 RBC Cup national championships. Trenton will open the national championships on May 13th against the hosts, Cobourg Cougars in a 7:00 p.m (EST) match – up.
