BELOW THE C’S: NCAA-BOUND JR. CANADIEN HAS WORK TO DO IN THE OJHL
A series of stories on the team captains in the Ontario Junior Hockey League during the 2017-18 season:
By Ron Valentine
JAKE JOFFE will be a member of the R.I.T Tigers in the NCAA next season following an excellent OJHL career but right now his only concern for this term is the success of the TORONTO JUNIOR CANADIENS.
Jake (Photo by Andy Corneau / OJHL Images) is one of four assistant captains on the club (Artur Terchiyev, Jason Pineo and Brayden Sampson are the others). He feels that the sophomores on this team have stepped up after their rookie seasons, add in the vets and you have the recipe for a club in contention in the South. Their division is very competitive this term, he notes, but knows the J.C's are very much in the mix. He feels the larger ice surface of the ScotiaBank Pond is well-suited to his small but very quick club.
Last season, Jake connected for 25 goals and he would very much like to better that this time around but it's very much 'team first' for this three-year veteran of the OJHL.
A major key on this team has to be veteran goalkeeper Dalton Ewing, he says, he has the knack for making the big save at an important part of the games – a great boost for his teammates especially when things are so close in the South.
Good luck to Jake in the NCAA.
