The Ontario Junior Hockey League paid tribute to former chairman and longtime team executive Scott McCrory during its Governors’ Showcase presented by Warrior Hockey in Cobourg Monday night.
McCrory was presented with the OJHL Chairman’s Award by Cobourg Cougars governor and fellow former chair Marc Mercier during an on-ice ceremony.
McCrory served as OJHL Chairman for eight years and as a Board Director for another three years.
The OJHL Board of Governors voted McCrory in as the first OJHL Life Member when he stepped down as chairman in 2018.
“It is extremely difficult to try and summarize the true impact that Scott McCrory has had on the OJHL and Junior A hockey,” said OJHL Commissioner Marty Savoy. “Scott has been the driving force behind every initiative that has built the OJHL into the league it is today. His selfless leadership at the Governor and Director tables has always been driven with a 'league first' mentality.”
Scott’s passion for the league and the people that work to make the OJHL the League of Choice led to him introducing the Chairman’s Award. The honour is awarded to an individual who goes above and beyond the normal course of duty for the OJHL.
Scott created the OJHL Foundation with the purpose to ensure that all players in the OJHL have various support, from mental health to concussions awareness.
McCrory also held hockey operations roles, including head coach, with the OJHL’s Whitby Fury, Wellington Dukes and Georgetown Raiders.
Now head coach of the GTHL’s Mississauga Senators U18 team, McCrory sits on the board of directors of the Ontario Hockey Association.
