The native of Long Beach, New York joined the Hamilton Red Wings for the 2008-09 OJHL season after playing previously with the Omaha Lancers of the USHL.  Diamond would finish second on the club with 42 goals and fourth overall in scoring with 76 points in 45 games played.  Following the season, he joined Maine to start his NCAA career and is currently the club's senior captain.

Below is the official press release from the University of Maine Athletics website (www.goblackbears.com):

University of Maine men's ice hockey senior forward Joey Diamond (Long Beach, N.Y.) was named the Hockey East Athletic Republic Co-Player of the Week on Monday. He shares the honor with Michael Pereira of Massachusetts.

It is the fourth time in his career that Diamond has earned Hockey East Player of the Week honors. He was named Hockey East Player of the Week honors twice last season and once during his sophomore campaign.

Diamond scored four goals and added an assist in Maine's 1-0-1 weekend. On Sunday, Feb. 3, he scored the game-winning goal in overtime against UMass Lowell. It was an unassisted tally after Diamond stole the puck and scored on a breakaway. Diamond also scored Maine's first goal of the game after an impressive individual move. He picked up an assist on Jake Rutt's (Scarborough, Maine) earlier in the game as well.

On Friday, Diamond scored both of Maine's goals in a 2-2 tie with Providence in the final 7:23 of the game. He scored Maine's first goal, shorthanded at 12:37, and then tied the game at 17:00 with a power play goal.

Diamond had a part in five of Maine's six goals on the weekend. He leads Maine in scoring with 10 goals and five assists for 15 points. Diamond has 55 goals and 40 assists for 95 career points. He has three power play goals and a pair of game-winning goals.

Diamond on the Black Bears return to action on Saturday, Feb. 9 when they travel to Vermont for a single game at 7 PM. Diamond has currently scored goals in six straight games against Vermont and will be looking to extend that streak this weekend.
