Former Burlington Cougars netminder Andrew Hare (photo courtesy of Oswego State Athletics), now with the Oswego State University Lakers, was named SUNYAC Player of the Week after winning MVP honours in capturing the 2013 championship.

After playing one game as an affiliated player with his hometown Cougars in 2006-07, Hare joined the club fulltime in 2007-08 and would play two full seasons in Burlington before accepting an NCAA Division I scholarship to Niagara University.  Leading the club to a 20 point improvement in the standings during his two seasons, he would post 20+ wins in both years while also earning numerous accolades along the way.  During his rookie season, Hare was selected as a member of Team at the 2007 CJHL Prospects Game, helping the East win the President's Cup with a 5-3 total goals victory.  The following year, he earned a spot as a member of Team Canada East at the 2008 World Junior 'A' Challenge held in Camrose, Alberta, helping lead the club to a bronze medal, and at the conclusion of the season he was named the MacKinnon Division's Most Valuable Player.

Below is the official press release from the Oswego State Athletics website (www.athletics.oswego.edu):

Oswego State men's ice hockey goalie Andrew Hare (Sr., Burlington, Ontario) has been named the SUNY Athletic Conference Men's Ice Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending March 3, 2013.

Hare turned in 30 saves to help the Lakers clinch the program's ninth SUNYAC title with a 4-0 win over Plattsburgh to earn SUNYAC Tournament MVP honors. He got better as the game wore on, as evident by his 14 saves in the third period. He was also a pivotal figure in the Laker penalty-kill unit shutting out the Cardinals in seven power-play chances. Oswego State avenged a pair of regular-season losses to the Cardinals to claim its second league title in four seasons and earned its fourth-straight NCAA Tournament bid. The No. 3/5 Lakers improved to 23-4-0 with the victory.

Oswego State travels to Michigan on Saturday to skate against the Adrian Bulldogs in an NCAA Quarterfinal at 7 p.m.
